Connection to a single terminal is rather pointless so at least that eliminates three possibilities.
As in 3 pin potentiometer the outer two pins are for fixed max resistance then the middle pin is the wiper not true. As shown in figure 6 a pot is usually wired using all three terminals and i have used the same numbering scheme as in figure 5. Figure 6 potentiometer terminals and connections.
